Trivia[]

  • This episode is similar to the 1988 Mama's Family episode "Mama on Jeopardy!", where the main female lead ends up on Jeopardy! by some kind of fluke, and initially performs horribly until near the end of the Double Jeopardy! round. Like Fran, after spending much of the game in the negatives, Thelma "Mama" Harper (Vicki Lawrence) gets the last two questions in the round right and brings her up to the plus side by a measly $100, enabling her to compete in Final Jeopardy! Thelma also tries to peek at her competitors' Final Jeopardy! answers, but makes it more obvious compared to Fran "dropping" her earring. But compared to Fran becoming the new Jeopardy! Champion with a mere $200, Thelma ends up coming in second with only $1 left (and also mocks a competitor for losing all her money when giving the wrong response like Fran does), but wins a trip for four to Hawaii, and like Fran, hugs host Alex Trebek in response (but also kisses him, much to her friend Iola's shock).
