"Dope Diamond" is the third episode in the third season of the CBS television series The Nanny, which was aired on September 25, 1995.
Synopsis[]
Fran accepts a marriage proposal from a doctor, but the groom-to-be vanishes.
Plot[]
Maxwell is playing chess with Brighton, when Fran comes downstairs in a black dress with red hearts and a green frill at the top with her mom tugging her dress up. It is then explained that Fran is dating a doctor named Jules. When he comes to pick up Fran he and her immediately start making out. Max thinks that the two are taking their relationship too fast.
Fran enters the room and says that Jules is taking her to a matinee. They are seeing The Fantastics. She goes and gets him to met C.C. Babcock and sees he's playing chess with Brighton and how good a father he would make. Fran and Jules enter the room making out and C.C get upset when she sees how good he looks.
Sylvia is at dinner looking over Mr. Sheffield's shoulder watching him eat. This makes Maxwell very uncomfortable and offers for her to take an actual seat. She then says that she only came over to see how Fran's date went and then steals food off of Gracie Sheffield's plate.
Brighton then says that he likes Jules and boasts about how Jules has yet to beat him at chess. Maxwell then explains how Jules throws every game to let him win. He then goes on to say how Fran's relationships always end in disaster. Fran then rushes in and screams that Jules asked her to marry him.
Maxwell starts saying how odd it was that they were getting married when they've only known each other for 2 weeks. When Maggie Sheffield asks if she can be a bridesmaid Fran then says that she didn't say yes just as Sylvia entered the room again and faints when she hears that Fran declines the marriage. Fran doesn't notice her mother fainting and when Sylvia says 'why don't you grab a knife and stick it straight through my heart'. She thinks Gracie did an impersonation of Sylvia and congratulates her.
Then she notices Sylvia and they start running around the room. Sylvia holding a corn above her head threatening to throw it at Fran.
They then run into the kitchen where Fran takes the extension cord of the sink for dishes and holds it to Sylvia where she threatens to spray her if she doesn't put down the corn. They talk about why Fran said no and then Fran says that she'll accept the ring
In the next shot Fran and Jules go shopping for rings and Fran says she wants a simple ring. Jules then says that they don't want to see anything less then 5 karats. A woman gives them a 5.2 karat ring and Jules says it doesn't sparkle enough. Fran, thinking they're trying to heckle her for a better price, goes along with it and agrees. He then goes outside to see if the ring sparkles. The woman then notices that Jules hasn't come back and she calls the police. Jules has stolen the ring.
